It limits to the north with Lima, to the east with Huancavelica and Ayacucho and to the west with the Pacific Ocean. The weather is pleasant and it runs from 8ºC during winter to 30ºC in summer season.
Ica is the cradle of the Paracas culture, one of the most important in the Peruvian coast. The Paracas culture has developed between the 7th to the 2nd century BC. Its an outstanding culture because of their skills with textiles, trephinations and their skillful to mummify dead people.
Here we can find rests of the Nazca culture as well. The Nazca are well-known because their magnificent pottery, their enigmatic Nazca lines and their fabulous aqueducts that make great use of underground water.
More recently, this ancient land, Ica, has become a very important region for agro exporters of Peru. More than 80% of the agricultural value exported is produced in Ica. Asparagus, Wine and Avocado from Ica are worldwide demanded.
Once in Ica you visit the Paracas National Reserve, wich covers 335,000 hectares protecting several endangered species such as the sea lion, the sea cat, the Humbold penguin, the falmingos, turtles, marine birds, dolphins, etc. Inside the reserve there is the Ballestas island wich is a rocky formation that contains many species of marine fauna.
The enigmatic Nazca lines will amaze you. It’s really hard to express in words what are these mysterious lines peruvian ancestors forged in this extense region of the millenary Peru. For sure is really difficult since one has to feel from the heights why they draw them. Immense draws of animals like: the humming bird, the monkey, the condor, the wale, the pelican, the spider, the tupu, the candelabrum, the huarango tree and an amazing draw that many had the impression is a landing field for extraterrestrial spaceships.
